RACHMANINOV'S FOURTH WITH SUN AND SNOW
14th January 2010

Hot on the heels of his New York itunes event Leif Ove Andsnes flew to Venezuela to join Gustavo Dudamel and the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra for some New Year's music making in the sun which included Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto no. 4. Last night Leif Ove and Gustavo were back in Scandinavia in the snow for a performance of the same work with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra before a well timed tour of the Canary Islands where they will gladly find themselves back in the January sun.

Reviewing last night's performance the Göteborg Posten wrote "Faced with Leif Ove Andsnes at the piano one must bow down unreservedly. His internal compass always points out the right road, perhaps even the most accurate. Rachmaninov's fourth piano concerto is the one which has the most idiosyncrasies and originality. Thus, it is also harder than the second and third when it comes to finding the lines. But Andsnes did. He mastered the work through calling up the musical gesture, giving the tones the exact weight at any point."

If you are not fortunate enough to find yourself in the Canary Islands in the next week, join Leif Ove Andsnes for his next performance of Rachmaninov's Fourth Piano Concerto with the London Symphony Orchestra and Antonio Pappano in London on 29th April.
