BRUSSELS HAILS PICTURES REFRAMED AS ONE OF THE "ARTISTIC SENSATIONS OF 2009"
26th November 2009

At last! Pictures Reframed has arrived in Europe and was greeted in Brussels on Tuesday night with a full and rapturous house. The 2000 seater art deco hall was packed to the gills and a revered silence was sustained throughout the concert breaking into immediate applause as Leif Ove Andsnes was joined on the stage by Robin Rhode at the end.

In the days running up to the premiere the Belgian press had shown their committment to the project with Vif writing “This unexpected clash is already one of the artistic sensations of 2009" and Knack commenting “If we had to keep one recording of Mussorgsky's Pictures for eternity, then let it be the one by Andsnes. Today, only a few artists play music inspired by an inner beauty without frill. Andsnes is one of them.”

Following the performance everyone had something to say and was comparing notes passionately and this is just the type of response which artistically Leif Ove and Robin had hoped for. Did you think the marriage between music and visuals worked? Which movements did you like and which didn't you? Everyone has a different opinion and every one wanted to discuss it.

As the first review appears in La Libre Belgique, Nicolas Blanmont also pays tribute to the evening as one of the musical events of 2009 remembering the "powerful and intrinsically theatrical performance" but questioning his feelings about the collaboration with Rhode.
